I hope this logic is making sense to you. OK, so what would be some guidelines to watching pornography?
First, pornography is fantasy. Leave it that way. - The reason for this rule is because Matthew 5:28 is built on the idea of NOT coveting your neighbor's wife. Coveting is not sexual thoughts or fantasy, but rather desiring to take another man's wife (literally). The sin of coveting occurs when the person truly desides in his heart, he is going to go after a married woman. Therefore, when watching pornography, realize, some of these women are likely married and the simplest way to avoid sin is to leave it as fantasy. If you start to become a "fan" of a certain woman and start to try to meet her to get to know her, etc, not exactly a good idea. As then, there is real potential for temptation and sin, as she could be married and you could start to truly desire her, which would be committing adultery in your heart. Regarding whether prostitutes are sinning in these videos, I can say to you that shockingly, not always. I go into detail on it here, showing that one form of harlotry is not sinful and I harmonize every scripture in the Bible on this topic. If the pornstar is not married, it would not be a sin for them to have sex (even if it is for money), as I prove here. I discuss this video usage factor in this article here. I discuss this more also in article1.htm. - Leviticus 18:20
Believe it or not, more than one women having sex with one man is not sinful in general - As polygamy is not a sin. I prove it in this article here. So, yes, believe it or not, people in the Old Testament had multiple wives and likely a few did such things. Of course, this argument on polygamy is controversial and if your mind is not fully convinced or you think polygamy is a sin, it would be a sin for you to watch such things(because whatsoever is not done of faith, is sin). - Polygamy Bible Passages
A no brainer: Sex with animals is obviously a sin - Should not have to mention this, but there are actually people who watch such wickedness. There was even some guy recently in my state who was arrested for distributing such garbage. - Leviticus 18:23
Men lying with men is sin - Gay movies are sinful, so obviously, playing it out in your head would be also. - Leviticus 18:22 To be fair, there are a couple arguments that gays use to claim that these passages are refering to temple prostitution, however, with my research, no matter how many ways you argue it, it seems always to be a weak viewpoint (they use David and Jonathan's relationship to claim this was a covenant between two men before God and they are gay. However, I believe that in reality, it is more likely they were just very close and non-sexual and the covenant was a friendship covenant, not a marriage. It should be noted, though, a couple of the things Jonathan and David did would be considered strange today). - Wikipedia - David and Jonathan. The main problem I see is that there is no example BEFORE Leviticus of followers of God being gay, and Leviticus (no matter how you slice it) prohibits men with men (Leviticus 18:22). They claim that it is in reference to Egypt's system of living, which is cited in the beginning verses, but even if that was the case, it is the first law and even mention of men with men in the Bible and it condemns it. God is the same yesterday today and forever. Their argument is it is "contextualized" to Israel with relation to the surrounding cultures. They cite two examples of other commands listed in Leviticus that were violated by followers of God PRIOR to Leviticus, indicating it is a contexualized situation. But again, just because there is context, doesn't mean God would allow gay activity otherwise.. So, to me, the arguement is weak and not sustainable. Their strongest point is considering how Jonathan and David were interacting.. Truly, I would not do such things with a friend, so it does seem strange, however, we should not impose our assumptions or add to the story, simply because it furthers our viewpoint. Perhaps it is God's way of saying, men can be close in rare situations, however, not sexually speaking. My argument against this David and Jonathan interaction argument is this.. Can you think of any guy and girl that were very close, yet it was platonic and not sexual? I can think of some. Therefore, it is possible such a thing could occur between two men on a strictly platonic close friendship level.
What about woman with woman? - Although many Christians assume that lesbianism is sinful, strangely, in the list of sexual sins in the Bible, it never says woman can not lay with woman. However, I believe the reason it is never directly stated is because then polygamy could be condemned (i.e. ~ two or more women with one man). So, for the sake of polygamy, atleast, God left it out. As you know, men enjoy such things as seeing/having more than one woman sexually at the same time. And if God permitted men to have more than one wife sexually at the same time, it would follow that God it is not a sin for him to be with both women. You can not tell me that during King Solomon's reign that he never had such an idea, while being married to 1000 wives.. You and I both know, he got it on with more than one woman at a time. So, the idea of lesbians being in a relationship or marrying is a sin, because it denies God's marriage design, as discussed in Romans 1, however, a woman having sex with another woman or being intimate with another woman is not intrinsically a sin, in of itself, otherwise there would be a scripture against it. But, what about Romans 1:26? Like I said before, in the Old Testament, sexual sins are defined. When God wrote it, he only said men with men. He never said woman with woman. HOWEVER, when he wrote about sex with animals he said man shall not lie with animals and also woman shall not lie with animals. So, if God clearly gave examples of both men and woman with animals as being sin, why not woman with woman? It would be not consistant for God to at one point in a paragraph establish that he is speaking of men and women separately and in another section, using men represent men and women. See what I mean? Further, it says in Romans 1 that it was "against nature", which could also refer to sex with animals(is this not against nature?). So to assume, "against nature" means sex between women, would be adding to the text (seeing no commandment is given directly anywhere against the action). So, sex between women appears to not be a sin from a scriptural standpoint. I would say that the lifestyle of two woman being in serious relationship together without a man is wrong. However, I think what is going on is that these women tend to be bi-sexual and they would be the type of women who would do well in a polygamous marriage, where they could be sexually intimate with both a man and a woman. So, with regards to lesbian pornography, it may not be a sin to watch, however, many in the church would look at it as wrong, as it bears the offensive nature to many.
Bondage? Not sure on this one. Extreme versions most likely sinful - I guess it depends what they are doing. I would suggest the principle, "when in doubt, throw it out".
Two men having sexual intercourse with the same woman - On this one, with regards to a commited relationship or a marriage, it is against God's design of one man and one woman or the secondary permitted design of polygamy (one man and more than one woman). There is two possible methods one can argue this not being a sin (though I can not guarantee their accuracy). First, one could argue that a non-married woman (who is not living with her parents) has a right to be a harlot if she desires, as I discuss here and technically speaking, there is no commandment stating that a woman can not have sex with more than one man if not married. I would say this argument has potential merit. Otherwise, it is a sin. - Leviticus 18:22
Group sex: Multiple men and women having sex with each other - This is a lot like the multiple men with one woman scenerio mentioned above. If any of the women are married, and they are doing actual sexual intercourse, they are cheating on their husbands. If a woman is not married, it is against God's desire and it is risky. Watching in a movie, obviously, there is the risk of potentially warping the mind and conscience. There is risk of confusion in one's mind on morals, potential pregnancy, sexual addiction, adultery if one is married, etc). If the men are interacting sexually, it would be considered gay and sinful, as men are never to interact sexually. Also, you can see this is a slippery slope potential that could lead to sin. God's design is one man and one woman in marriage (ideal) and secondary design is more than one woman and one man (polygamy), yet other things are permitted as I discuss here. - Leviticus 18:22
Some person lying with their relative - Believe it or not, this one needs to be mentioned also. Relatives having sex in a movie (for instance, two hot twins with one guy) would be a sin according to God's law. I think this one is pretty rare. About the only example I could think of was the twin one. - Leviticus 18:7 - 16
Transvestite or Transsexual sex is a sin to watch - As it is a perversion of God's design. It is taking a man and woman's role and confusing it, which is a form of rebellion. This is different than a hermaphrodite. I have no clue what to make of a hermaphrodite's situation other than the person has a very unique gift of being able to choose whether he wants to be a man or woman (as he has both sexual organs). For a hermaphrodite, I think he would be exempt from any judgement as he did not choose to have both sexes at one time. Regarding transvestites, though, they are basically males pretending to be women to have role reversal sex, which would be a form of gay sex (male with male). Honestly, they already have their sex designated by God, so they should not be trying to change it - Leviticus 18:22, - 1 Corinthians 6:9 - In this scripture, it tells of those who will not be saved. Fornicators(sexually immoral), Adulterers(steal another's wife), Effeminate(Drag, Trans type activity), etc.
Another no brainer: Child pornography is evil - This goes against God's design also, as they are not physically, mentally or sexually developed until around the age of 18. Pyschologists say mental capacity for responsibility does not fully develop until around 18 or later, so they are not equipped to make such decisions or know entirely if they are being manipulated by evil men or women. That is why the principle of children being under their parents care until a certain age is in place in scripture. I discuss this on article 1. Further, there is scripture that forbids parents from sexually exploiting their children for money (can't seem to remember where it is located). Also, scripture forbids people from making merchandise of their neighbor.
Erotic movies can also have bad storylines - Obviously, some erotic movies have certain storylines and themes. These should also be carefully considered when watching such a movie. For some of them have obviously evil themes. An obvious example: A movie where a married woman is cheating on her husband or vice versa.
Erotic movies having to do with Sacred Sex/Tantra/Etc. - To put it mildly, the whole evil of many of the sexual pagan practices, such as orgies, had more to do with idol worship than the sex act itself. And Sacred Sex, Tantra, etc are all putting an idolatrous spin on sex. God likely hates idolatry worse than an evil sex act, so by participating in such things, you are likely performing a form of idolatry with a sex act. Temple prostitution is often what is meant by fornication in scripture and that is why fornication was often used to mean idolatry as well. So, the "root" of the sexual sin God hates most is mixing a worship to a false God with sex. Also, often, people misunderstand the word "orgie" or "revellings" as discussed in 1 Peter 4:3 or Galatians 5:21. Basically, it is talking about a party, such as seen by Moses when he came down from the Mountain with the 10 Commandments. The main focus, idolatry and then doing all manner of drunken, crazy, lewd/sexual acts to praise the false God and often leading to some trance like state. This is what an orgie really is per biblical terminology. Today, I think maybe some examples of this would be the Festivals seen in India (although often, no sexual component). One time, I actually walked into a building with one of these taking place and I saw one of these people in a trance like state. I also felt the presense of something very evil, as I felt sick just being in the building (the moment I walked in prior to even knowing what was going on). Another example, maybe USA side, would be what is seen in New Orleans on Fat Tuesday (Marti Gra). Although, with Marti Gra, it seems to be a weak form of an orgy, as there really isn't an idolatrious atmosphere. So, it could be sort of a shell of a true orgy, as people do not worship a false diety directly or fall into a trance like state.
Movies that portray violence, rape, torture, etc are evil - I believe this is intrinsically clear, as we are to love our neighbors as ourselves and this would be the exact opposite. It is also a temptation for certain demographics of men and women to get into such things, which could lead to deeper sin. This is where Ted Bundy got off track before becoming a serial killer, which he admitted to in an interview with James Dobson (Focus on the Family) about 20 years ago.
Your Witness & Other Considerations - If you are married, consider first, why you are watching pornography? Is there a problem in your marriage and you are trying to escape or avoid dealing with it? Perhaps you have tried to work through a problem. Or maybe, your wife or husband doesn't have a problem with it? You should always try to be one with your spouse and your marriage is more important than such things as this. So, make sure your motives are good. If for instance, your spouse refuses to have sex with you on purpose and you tried to discuss it with them, and they are just being stubborn, you still have a need that needs to be met somehow. I would say the "lest Satan tempt you" scripture is refering to you finding another person to have an affair with. So, actually, pornography can be a "fix" to keep you from being tempted to get into an affair with another person. Also, there is the consideration of you and your spouse actually watching erotic videos together. I would say it is far more likely a man would be willing more than a woman, however, there are women who watch pornography also, including Christian women. Then, there is your Christian witness. This also needs to be considered. Of course, if it is a private matter for you, others need not know. You are not required to tell people of your private activities. However, if it is something that could compromise your Christian witness, then it is something you should avoid. Of course, this is a balanced topic, as you could try to make an argument here that I am "compromising" my witness. However, actually, I am providing a very biblical defense for my position and I have seen no argument from anyone that can poke holes in this one or defeat it. So my witness still stands, because if I am right about this, how is that compromising my witness for Christ? Consider also, you do not know who I am, so I am also not compromised in that manner either.
It could very easily be you do not agree with some of the above. Maybe you think only scenes where a woman is showing herself naked (alone) is acceptable. Or, possibly, it could be you think only scenes where one man is with one woman is acceptable. If you see the standard as being tighter than what I wrote above, that is great, because it would be best for you to only do things in faith. For whatsoever is not done of faith, is sin. If you personally thought driving a car over 60 miles an hour was a sin, do not do it. Sounds like a crazy notion, but there was actually a time where people thought such things (beginnings of the car industry). There are churches that think dancing is evil, women with short hair is sinful, etc. I would disagree with such notions, however, if you are convinced in your mind something is wrong, don't do it. If one day you read the scriptures and God enlightens you to something you might have missed, great. Just make sure to always have God first in your life. As that is what is most important.
Recently, I created a website that weeds out most all of the bad pornography: Erotic Liberty.Com. Since there are so many bad erotic/pornographic websites out there, I thought I would make one from a Christian perspective.
